As reported by CBC, Singh had put forward a motion to recognize the existence of systemic racism in the RCMP. Speaker Anthony Rota kicked Singh out for the rest of the day after Singh called Alain Therrien racist for refusing to support an NDP motion dealing with systemic racism in the RCMP.
Jagmeet Singh has expressed his thoughts on how the events transpired that day, which has caused mixed reactions from both his supporters and those opposed to his comments towards the fellow MP.
After refusing to apologize for calling the MP a racist, Jagmeet Singh was removed from the House of Commons. His wife, Gurkiran Kaur Sidhu, shared her support for him on social media via Instagram.
She said, “Jagmeet, don’t ever back down, fight racism with every inch of your existence. And, I’ll always walk with you on this path…”
Gurkiran has since then received comments of support from her social media followers. The NDP’s official Twitter account has also tweeted since then.
The NDP wants you to show your support, and have launched a petition. The petition asks that you “add your name to tell the government you are done listening to words and that you want them to act”.
