According to Priori Data, Google Play users in India generated 13.19 million downloads of video-sharing platform TikTok in May 2020. TikTok is the international version of Chinese app Douyin and is one of the fastest-growing apps of 2019.
While most of India is locked down during the COVID-19 pandemic, media consumption in the country is up. According to a survey by McKinsey and Company asked Indians about expected behavior changes in regards to media in the first two weeks of April.
60 percent of respondents said they would pass the time by watching more videos online. TikTok was consistently in the top 5 of the most downloaded charts in the country since the lockdown started according to market analysts Priori Data.
