March 27, 2023 – Viral Trends | MainstreamCanadian.ca – Rayyanah Barnawi is the first Saudi female astronaut who was selected for Axiom Mission 2 as a Mission Specialist by the Saudi Space Commission.
Her selection was officially announced on February 12, 2023. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences from University of Otago. She also holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from Al Faisal University, where she studied the adhesion of breast cancer stem cells. As part of her space mission, she is conducting mission experiments in her field.
On Friday, she shared a video on Twitter showcasing the night view of Mecca with the Grand Mosque brightly illuminated. She captioned the video in Arabic, which translates as, “After I finished my experiments for today, we happened to pass over Makkah Al-Mukarramah. Light upon light”.
The video has gone viral and had received over 1.3 million views on Twitter.
A day earlier, on Thursday, she tweeted, “The first steps in starting scientific experiments is to test the response of immune cells to infections using the live experiments box.”
Saudi Astronauts Rayyanah Barnawi and Ali Al Qarni were launched into space on May 21, from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. Accompanied by veteran NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson and American entrepreneur John Shofner.
