On Friday, Ontario is reporting 213 new COVID-19 infections, continuing the trend of an uptick in infections, especially in the Peel Region and Toronto. Today’s case count is also the highest it has been since June 23, when 216 new cases were reported.
Speaking to reporters on Friday afternoon, Ontario Premier Doug Ford once again urged people to avoid gathering in big groups.
“Ontario is reporting 213 cases of #COVID19 with over 32,500 tests completed. Locally, 26 PHUs are reporting five or fewer cases with 18 reporting no new cases. There are 71 cases in Toronto, with 38 in Peel and 37 in Ottawa. 67% of today’s cases are in people under the age of 40“, the Health Minister, Christine Elliot, stated in her tweet today.

According to Peel Public Health, Brampton registered 26, Caledon 7 and Mississauga 13 new cases on September 11, 2020.
Social media commentators have been expressing concerns with the rising numbers in the Peel Region, specifically the city of Brampton which is registering the majority of cases in Peel.
If there is a discrepancy between numbers reported by Public Health Ontario and those reported publicly by a Public Health Unit, it is because the Public Health Unit hasn’t yet updated their numbers in iPHIS. In that case, consider the number reported by the Public Health Unit to be the most up to date
Across the globe, the US (+38,808 new cases), Brazil (+40,431 new cases) and India continue to see an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. Pakistan reported 196 new cases yesterday compared to its neighbour India where 96,760 new cases were registered. A country with a population similar to India is China, where the first cases of the virus were discovered, reported 7 new cases yesterday.
