In a record-breaking pledge, the Muslim community has announced $5 million to support the redevelopment of Mississauga Hospital, one of three sites that together comprise Trillium Health Partners.
This is the largest gift to a hospital by the Muslim community in Canadian history.
Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie took to Twitter and wrote, “My sincerest thanks to #Mississauga’s Muslim community who’ve pledged a historic $5M to help rebuild the Mississauga Hospital. Trillium sees over 1.75M patients a year, making it one of the busiest hospital networks in Ontario. Its imperative residents have new and modern care.“

The announcement was made today in the presence of: Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, Dr. Lawrence Loh, Medical Officer of Health at Region of Peel, Tim Beckett, Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management, Caroline Riseboro, President and CEO, Trillium Health Partners Foundation, Abdul Qayyum Mufti, Trillium Health Partners Foundation Board Member.
Mississauga’s legendary ex-mayor Hazel McCallion was also present.
THP CEO Michelle DiEmanuele tweeted, “Today’s historic announcement speaks to the tremendous power of partnership. We are working every day to create a new kind of health care for a healthier community, and with support like this, we know there’s no limit to what we can achieve.”
THP is the largest community-based acute care facility in Canada, seeing over 1.75 million patient visits last year. Over the next 20 years, THP will experience more demand for care than any other hospital in the province.
Leaders of the Muslim community encourage all community members to contribute. When you give today, your generosity will help redevelop our Mississauga Hospital site, ensuring we can meet rising demand with high-quality care.
