
Mississauga is home to a diverse Muslim population, and the city is known for its vibrant arts and cultural mosaic when it comes to celebrating Canada’s diversity.
In her Tweet, Mayor Crombie said, “#EidMubarak! Today, I join #Mississauga’s Muslim community in marking #EidAlAdha, the end of the Hajj. Please remember to gather responsibly, keep your distance and continue to practice #COVID19 prevention. Sending my best wishes for a joyous and peaceful #Eid”
In her video message, the Mayor said that during Eid, Muslims come together and reflect upon guiding principles of Islam. She said that Mosques are an important hub for Muslims to worship, gather and strengthen their commitment to Allah. The Mayor said she’s pleased that places of worship have begun to reopen again, thanks to our collective efforts, although with limited capacity.
Mayor Crombie also thanked the Muslim community for their incredible generosity, from donating funds to Trillium Health Partners, and to hosting food drives to ensure our neighbours don’t go hungry, “you have shown us the true spirit of Mississauga”, the Mayor said.
“As you celebrate, please gather responsibly as you continue to celebrate Eid”, the Mayor concluded.
