On Tuesday, India reported 61,749 new COVID-19 cases, which means for the 18th straight day, India remains ahead of the United States and Brazil in terms of new daily cases of the virus.
As of Tuesday, India has 3,105,185 cases, Brazil 3,605,783, and the US reported 5,874,146. On Monday, India had reported the highest number of deaths, 854, globally. While the number of deaths reported by India on Tuesday was 1,066.
As per a Reuters report, India reported its first COVID-19 fatality in mid-March, with the death toll rising to around 35,700 by the end of July. In August so far, around 22,600 deaths have been recorded. Deaths are considered a lagging indicator, given the two-week incubation period of the disease. India has reported 59,612 deaths so far.
Compared to India, in terms of the total population size similarity, China’s total case count is lower than India, at 84,981 cases, and the total number of deaths 4,634.
According to Reuters, China reported 15 new COVID-19 cases in the mainland as of August 25, compared with 14 cases reported a day earlier.
India’s neighbour Pakistan is being praised globally for its smart lockdowns and surprising flattening of the curve.
Coronavirus is not over yet, and the race for the vaccine still continues.
