Globally renowned Turkish star Engin Altan Düzyatan, the lead actor of the popular Turkish TV series “Diriliş: Ertuğrul” (“Resurrection Ertuğrul”), is set to meet his devoted Pakistani fans for a live question-and-answer session this October.
During his visit to Pakistan, Düzyatan will meet his fans in the capital Islamabad, the commercial capital Karachi, and cultural hub Lahore.
The tour has been labeled as “Jashn e Ertugrul” by the organizers.
The Turkish blockbuster has earned iconic status in Pakistan and Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir regions after Pakistan Television telecast a version dubbed in Urdu. Their series has gained popularity across the globe, and is available via Netflix as well in Turkish language, with English subtitles.
Besides Engin Altan, Turkish star Esra Bilgiç has recently engaged with popular brands in Pakistan and is also very popular in Pakistan. Esra Bilgic also starred in Diriliş: Ertuğrul alongside Engin Altan.
Diriliş: Ertuğrul (transl. ”Resurrection: Ertuğrul”) was filmed in Riva, a village in the Beykoz district of Istanbul, Turkey, and premiered on TRT 1 in Turkey on 10 December 2014. The show is set in the 13th century and centers around the life of Ertuğrul, the father of Osman I, who was the founder of the Ottoman Empire.
Within days of the first telecast, the popularity of the series and its stars – especially Düzyatan – surged across the globe, more so in Pakistan as well, where the series was promoted by Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Often described as a Turkish “Game of Thrones,” the series is set in the period preceding the rise of the Ottoman Empire in 13th century Anatolia. Turkish media had reported earlier this year that the Middle Eastern media houses had decided to take the Turkish series off the air in 2018. According to Turkish media reports, Egypt issued a Fatwa against the series.
However, the decision faced great surprise around the Middle East where the series has broken rating records and was viewed online. Turkish industry estimates indicate that the TV series revenues will hit $1 billion in the year 2023.
