Ontario is reporting the highest number of new cases of COVID-19 since last month, but today’s report includes some older data from public health units that they were unable to upload to the province’s database earlier this week.
Where are the new COVID-19 cases in Ontario?
On Friday, Ottawa reported a significant jump in cases as it confirmed 37 new patients, Peel Region reported 21 new cases, Toronto reported 25 new cases and Niagara Region reported 8 new cases.
New patients’ age group: The majority were between the ages of 20 and 39. Twenty-one new cases were reported in people under the age of 20, while 18 were recorded in those above the age of 60.
“With the 11 missing public health units now having entered their numbers for yesterday and with all 34 units reporting today, Ontario has added 131 cases of #COVID19. Because of the data gap yesterday, today’s number is an overestimation of daily counts“, the Health Minister, Christine Elliot, stated in her tweet today.
“Yesterday, the province processed over 28,000 #COVID19 tests. Hospitalizations remain stable as ICU admissions and vented patients both declined“, the Health Minister tweeted further.
The Health Minister had stated yesterday, “The 11 units not included in today’s numbers are: Algoma, Brant County, Chatham-Kent, City of Hamilton, Niagara Region, Peterborough, Simcoe Muskoka District, Southwestern, Sudbury & Districts, Timiskaming and Windsor-Essex County.”

If there is a discrepancy between numbers reported by Public Health Ontario and those reported publicly by a Public Health Unit, it is because the Public Health Unit hasn’t yet updated their numbers in iPHIS. In that case, consider the number reported by the Public Health Unit to be the most up to date.
